Amakhosi went down 2-0 against the Natal Rich Boyz at the King Zwelithini Stadium who scored goals through defender Fezile Gcaba in the 48th minute and striker Yanela Mbuthuma in the 72nd minute.
MTN8 spot in jeopardy?
Despite the defeat, Kaizer Chiefs remained in eighth place in the standings on 29 points from 22 games played to date.
Amakhosi have won eight, lost nine and drawn five matches.
They are a full 29 points behind log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, but have played one fewer match.
Kaizer Chiefs are desperately clinging to a MTN8 spot, but worryingly for their supporters, they have played as many – or more – matches than almost all of their nearest challengers.
Amakhosi fans don’t need reminding that their team failed last season to qualify for this season’s lucrative MTN8 tournament.
The Glamour Boys will look to move up the table when they visit 10th-placed Golden Arrows in their next league fixture after the FIFA international break on Sunday, 30 March.
Kick-off is at 15:30.
