Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has issued an injury update on his three players ahead of the Mamelodi Sundowns game.
The two teams face off this Saturday at the FNB Stadium in the quarter-final of the Carling Knockout Cup. Having played already this season in a Betway Premiership clash, Masandawana go into Saturday’s clash as favourites.
Kaizer Chiefs will have two players unavailable due to injury. One player who could feature despite injury concerns is Mfundo Vilakazi. The teenager limped off during Amakhosi’s 2-2 draw with Magesi FC on Wednesday evening
“Mfundo, we don’t believe that it’s an injury,” Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi clarified.
“It was just cramps from fatigue. He ran a lot and we believe he will be fine. It’s true that those players have been injured for quite some time.”
“All of them are done with the injury, and now recovering, integrating with the group, and training but we need to be careful how we integrate them.
Kaizer Chiefs says Vilakazi might not have an injury
Mduduzi Mdantsane and George Matlou have been on the sidelined for months. Nabi confined that Matlou was yet to train with the team this season as he continues to recover after a lengthy layoff.
“Matlou has been out for like a year, we need to give them time to train, get fitness up and get time to play friendly games, bring back their preparedness, and get connected with teammates again before incorporating them in official matches again.”
Another Kaizer Chiefs player who is out due to an injury is Bongani Sam. The ex-Orlando Pirates defender is yet to feature for Amakhosi this season.
