Kaizer Chiefs go from bad to worse

Kaizer Chiefs seem to be going one step forward and two steps backwards.

Fans were optimistic when they saw their side line up against Mamelodi Sundowns in front of a packed-out FNB Stadium – the scene was set for a tight back and forth battle, but were the Glamour Boys going to rise to the occasion?

In short, no.

It took the Brazilians fourteen minutes to find the back of the net following an Iqraam Rayners penalty, who then slotted another eight minutes later – the score read 3-0 when the referee blew for halftime.

Heading into the second half, it seemed like Chiefs were on ‘damage control’, trying to prevent a four, five or six-nil thumping, but that was quickly unravelled by an Inacio Miguel – who was playing in his first game back following suspension – red card in the 56th minute.

Four minutes later Khuliso Mudua made it 4-0, concluding Sundowns’ triumphant day out in AmaKhosi quarters.

Kaizer Chiefs were a shadow of themselves compared to their controversial 2-1 loss to the Brazilians a few weeks ago, begging the question: ‘Are they even top four contenders?’

It’s likely that they won’t be fighting for the title this year – that’s a Sundowns and Orlando Pirates problem.

Nabi apologises to fans

Coach Nasreddine Nabi was quick to express his remorse to the Kaizer Chiefs ultras, telling SuperSport, “I want to apologise to all the fans,

“I present my congratulations for my colleague. I’m very sorry for this outing. From the backline, from the goal to the front, nothing that we have worked on worked today.

“We wanted to have reaction coming into the second half, but the red card that we got in the beginning of the second made is hard to come back but that’s how football is.

“I would like to finish by congratulating Mamelodi Sundowns, they had an amazing. When someone does something good we need to accept that.

“But we would like to apologise to our beautiful fans. We know they are waiting for a moment of joy for a long time. We will go back and work harder to give them what they are expecting from us.”
