Kaizer Chiefs get HUGE NEWS before Sundowns clash

Kaizer Chiefs face Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final tomorrow.

Missing Inacio Miguel due to a suspension for misconduct, they settled for a surprising 2-2 draw against newly promoted Magesi. However, Miguel is expected to return to the lineup when AmaKhosi face off against the Brazilians.

Youngsters Wandile Duba and Samkelo Zwane are also likely to return.

Chiefs quest for silverware

The Glamour Boys hope to end a nearly 10-year trophy drought off the back of their worst campaign in club history.

Last season saw them finish 10th, 37 points behind their upcoming opponents, Sundowns.

Having started the season strong, winning their opening two league games, they’ve hit a sour patch, recording two losses and one draw, insinuating that their best chance of lifting a trophy will be the Carling Knockout Cup.

“It is normal in football to concede goals,” Nasreddine Nabi reflected after their draw against Magesi.

“Magesi, our opponent yesterday, in the previous round of the cup scored three goals against the league leaders (Orlando Pirates).

“Against all our opponents, except probably Sundowns, they have got maybe one or two opportunities to score. Probably most of the time they have taken those opportunities, but that shows as well that our defence has been doing some good work.

“But we (also) can’t hide that there is room for improvement.”

Nabi wants more players

It’s no secret that Nabi wants more players in January, who told FARPost, “Our squad has a lot of quality players. But I don’t think this is going to be the final squad. We are working on getting new players,

“A big club like Kaizer Chiefs needs a high level of quality in all lines: in defence, middle and attack. You know it’s easier to look for a defender than a striker.

“If you need top players, you need to take your time. We continue with my staff and the committee to look for players,” the AmaKhosi manager added.

“So, you would need time to work hard to profile players. We work together to profile players in defence as I don’t have this opportunity for attack.

“We will continue with my staff committee to look. I need the strikers, and maybe if we have the wingers.”
