Kaizer Chiefs are eyeing their former ball boy but face stiff PSL competition.

Chiefs are reportedly considering a move to re-sign Puso Dithejane, a player they previously let go following a controversial incident over a year ago. Dithejane, who expressed reluctance to serve as a ball boy at Naturena, eventually transferred to TS Galaxy.

Regret and competition for Dithejane

Sources indicate that Chiefs now regret parting ways with Dithejane and are eager to bring him back. However, they face stiff competition from Mamelodi Sundowns, who also have their sights set on the talented player. Chiefs have a history of re-signing former players, and now they are focused on reclaiming another product of their youth development system.

Club scouts have identified Dithejane as a potential asset, with his name frequently mentioned in discussions at Naturena. “There have been talks at the club and there were different views from different people at the club about letting Puso go, and now they are looking at what happened as a mistake and they would want to have him back,” a source confirmed.

Will he return? The player’s perspective

The future hinges on Dithejane’s feelings about a potential return. While he felt disrespected by the way he left, he has acknowledged his growth at TS Galaxy and expressed a desire to come back. “The club has made it clear that they would want to have him back,” the source added, highlighting the mutual interest.

Another source pointed out that the only significant obstacle for Chiefs could be the asking price from TS Galaxy. The club had paid around R1 million to sign Dithejane, and they may need to negotiate to make a deal happen.

Rising star in the PSL and Chiefs return

Dithejane recently spoke to local media, reflecting on his past decisions. He admitted he should have respected the club and taken the opportunity to serve as a ball boy, much like other young talents. “So, for me, to do that to the team, I wasn’t respectful. But then I didn’t mean to do it. I respect the brand, and I’m not bigger than the brand,” he stated.

Dithejane emphasised the importance of learning from mistakes. “What I learnt is one shouldn’t be afraid to make mistakes, and all of us in football make mistakes. One can only learn from their mistakes and do better going forward,” he said.

While he doesn’t regret leaving Chiefs, he openly admits that he misses playing for the team. “For me, I don’t think I regret [leaving Kaizer Chiefs] because this is the opportunity to play in the PSL. I’m learning a lot from it. I don’t think I regret making a switch, but then on the other side, to be honest, I miss playing there (at Kaizer Chiefs). Here it’s different from what I was used to,” Dithejane added.
