Kaizer Chiefs eye star striker in January transfer shake-up, according to Soccer Laduma.

Chiefs are making bold strides to secure the services of free-agent Lebo Mothiba, aiming to address their long-standing scoring challenges. Sources within the club have confirmed that Chiefs have reignited talks with Mothiba, once stalled due to his injury recovery and European aspirations.

“The interest was there from the start when the club started looking for a striker,” a reliable insider revealed.

“The problem that time was that Lebo wanted to first explore his chances in Europe as there were some opportunities promised. But now that he is still a free agent, Chiefs have re-opened the negotiations.”

Why Chiefs are betting on Mothiba

The timing couldn’t be more ideal for Amakhosi. Mothiba’s free-agent status gives Chiefs a financial edge, as they won’t incur hefty transfer fees. This opens the door for the club to potentially secure additional reinforcements.

“You know, as a free agent, it favours the club to sign him,” another source explained. “They will save money on transfer fees, which could allow them to sign another striker or player with the money saved on Mothiba.”

Chiefs’ coach has also been vocal about the need for an experienced goal scorer, making Mothiba an ideal target. “The talks are believed to be going well, and things could work out positively. The coach is looking for an experienced goal poacher who can help the team,” the insider added.

More strikers on the radar

Kaizer Chiefs aren’t stopping with Mothiba. The club has its sights set on other prolific attackers, including DRC striker Fiston Mayele from Pyramids FC, Kenyan star Michael Olunga in Qatar, and Lungelo Nguse from Golden Arrows. Chiefs are also nurturing young talent, with Naledi Hlongwane from the DDC side being groomed for the first team.

“It’s not just about signing one striker,” another insider emphasized. “It’s about finding a solution to the scoring problem. So, it could be one or two strikers, as long as it’s what the coach wants.”

By focusing on free agents like Mothiba and exploring multiple striker options, Chiefs are adopting a strategic approach to strengthen their squad without overspending. Fans can expect exciting developments in the January transfer window as Amakhosi aim to reclaim their dominance in South African football.

Will Mothiba return home to don the iconic gold and black jersey? All eyes are on Kaizer Chiefs as they prepare to make decisive moves in the transfer market.
