Kaizer Chiefs eye midfielder Feisal Salum, as his contract and buy-out clause is exposed.

Chiefs are making headlines with their pursuit of Tanzanian star Salum, unveiling critical information about his contract and a significant buyout clause. The 26-year-old talent, previously linked to both Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, currently plays for Tanzanian club Azam FC, where he holds a substantial contract that includes a hefty buyout clause of R36 million.

Sources close to both Kaizer Chiefs confirm that while interest in Salum exists, no formal negotiations or bids have started. Because Chiefs are currently evaluating the complexities involved in striking a deal, and the January window is still far.

“Chiefs have shown a strong interest in the player, actively monitoring his progress with both the club and the national team,” an insider revealed.

“Azam previously sought around R36 million or something close to that, and that’s the current situation.” The insider also noted, “Azam is open to releasing the player if they receive the right price,” highlighting the club’s willingness to negotiate under the right circumstances.

Contract complexity: A long-term commitment

Previous reports reveal that the complexity of potential negotiations escalates due to Salum’s long-term contract, which runs until June 2028. This contract extension features a three-year option beyond the initial expiration in June 2025. Consequently, Azam FC has established a high buyout clause, reflecting their commitment to retaining the player.

“Kaizer Chiefs have consistently shown interest in the midfielder, making inquiries before the start of this season, but he remains under contract,” a source explained.

“His initial contract runs until June 2025, but both the club and the player agreed to a three-year option that extends it to June 2028. This is why the club has set a buyout clause of R36 million. Earlier this season, Sundowns attempted to negotiate a deal but offered less than that amount and failed to reach an agreement on terms.”

Salum’s rising star: A midfield powerhouse

Feisal Salum, who gained prominence at Young Africans under newly appointed Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi, stands out as one of Tanzania’s premier midfielders. At just 26 years old, his impressive skills and versatility have made him a highly sought-after player. Salum excels in multiple roles, whether as a holding midfielder, a box-to-box dynamo, or a traditional No. 10 behind the striker. Last season, he scored 19 goals, ranking as the second top scorer, just behind his former teammate Stephane Aziz Ki, who netted 21 goals.

Known as ‘Fei Toto’ in Tanzania, Salum showcases exceptional technical skills that allow him to navigate complex tactical scenarios effortlessly. His ability to deliver pinpoint passes and relentless work ethic, making him a valuable asset for any team.
