Kaizer Chiefs eye fresh talent while offloading underperforming winger, according to SABC Sport.

SuperSport United has entered the race to sign Chiefs’ winger Christian Saile, sparking a transfer tug-of-war. The DR Congo international’s future at Chiefs hangs in the balance, as talks between the two clubs intensify.

Earlier this week, reports confirmed Kaizer Chiefs’ eagerness to part ways with Saile to clear a foreign-player slot in their squad. The Soweto giants are gearing up for a significant international striker signing later this month, making Saile’s departure a priority.

Chippa’s initial lead fizzles

Chippa United initially emerged as strong contenders to secure Saile’s signature. The Gqeberha-based side showed serious interest and prepared an offer. However, that potential deal now teeters on the edge, as SuperSport United enters the picture with their own negotiations.

Since joining Chiefs from Zambia’s Nchanga Rangers two years ago, the 25-year-old has faced a challenging journey. Saile has struggled for regular playing time and fallen out of favor under coach Nasreddine Nabi. With only six appearances this season, mostly from the bench, his lack of impact has been evident.

“For a player of his caliber, a transfer offers an opportunity to reignite his career in a system where he can thrive,” said a source close to the situation. Chiefs are open to a loan deal with an option to buy, considering Saile’s contract expires in July next year.

SuperSport gains momentum

While Chippa seemed poised to finalize the deal, SuperSport United’s interest has reshaped the landscape. The Tshwane-based outfit has now taken the lead in discussions with Amakhosi. However, SuperSport faces its own hurdle: the club must free up a foreign-player spot, as they’ve already reached the NSL’s five-player limit.

Chiefs target Appollis as replacement

While maneuvering Saile’s exit, Kaizer Chiefs are actively pursuing Bafana Bafana winger Oswin Appollis. An official bid has been submitted, signaling their intent to bolster their attacking options. If the Appollis deal falls through, Chiefs will not hesitate to explore other targets to fill the void left by Saile.

Chiefs are clearly focused on reshaping their squad for a stronger second half of the season. The transfer saga around Saile is heating up, and with SuperSport United’s growing interest, the coming weeks promise to bring decisive action. Who will emerge victorious in this high-stakes transfer race?
