Kaizer Chiefs sporting director breaks silence on the head coach’s future with diplomacy.

After a season packed with ups and downs, Amakhosi finally ended a 10-year trophy drought by lifting the Nedbank Cup, and with it, the future of Nasreddine Nabi just got a lot clearer.

Speculation swirled for weeks that the Tunisian tactician could face the axe after only one season in charge. However, director Kaizer Motaung Junior has now addressed the rumours head-on, confirming that the club remains committed to Nabi, for now.

“Of course he’s got another season after this with us now,” Motaung Junior told 5FM. “At the same time also, like we do after every season, we sit down and review.”

League inconsistency raises questions

Nabi’s inaugural campaign with the Soweto giants has been anything but smooth. Inconsistent performances in the Betway Premiership raised serious doubts about his leadership. Critics often pointed to his pragmatic game plans and quiet demeanor on the touchline.

Despite the criticism, Nabi delivered when it mattered most. The dramatic Nedbank Cup final win reignited belief within the club and its fanbase, and possibly secured his place for another season.

“We know that results in the league have been a bit inconsistent. We know we’ve just been able to achieve a record milestone,” Motaung Junior said, acknowledging both the struggles and the success.

Chiefs shift focus to long-term rebuild

With the trophy in hand, Chiefs management is now turning its eyes to the future. Motaung Junior emphasized the importance of building on this momentum and uniting everyone involved in the club’s journey.

“With everything else, we’re moving forward. We’re planning the way forward,” he said. “And we want to really savour this moment… galvanise the supporters and galvanise the tech team, the players, the staff for the mission ahead.”

What’s next for Nabi and Chiefs?

While the cup victory has silenced the doubters for now, all eyes will be on Nabi in the next season. Consistency in the league will be non-negotiable, and with a long-term project in motion, the pressure to deliver sustained success is higher than ever.

“So we’re just planning for the future,” Motaung Junior concluded, hinting at a vision that extends well beyond one season.
