Kaizer Chiefs defender on AmaZulu’s radar, according to Soccer Laduma.
Chiefs’ centre-back Zitha Kwinika may soon be approached by Usuthu, sparking speculation about his future in the Soweto giants’ squad. Sources suggest that AmaZulu, led by former Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane, is eyeing the defender as a potential mid-season signing to strengthen their backline.
Kwinika’s time at Amakhosi has been far from smooth this season. Under the guidance of coach Nasreddine Nabi, the 29-year-old has yet to feature in any official matches, spending most of his time watching from the bench. His lack of game time has fueled rumours about a possible exit during the upcoming transfer window.
Kwinika’s second stint with Chiefs
Kwinika’s return to Kaizer Chiefs in 2022, after his successful tenure at Stellenbosch FC, was met with high hopes. Recruited by Arthur Zwane during his time as head coach at Naturena, Kwinika brought experience and versatility to the squad.
Initially part of the Chiefs’ development system, Kwinika departed in 2015 to gain experience at clubs like Chippa United and Bidvest Wits before rejoining the club via Stellenbosch. However, despite his promising return, his lack of appearances under Nabi has cast doubt over his long-term role with the team.
Zwane’s interest in reuniting with Kwinika
Arthur Zwane, now co-coaching AmaZulu FC alongside Vusumuzi Vilakazi, appears eager to bring Kwinika into his squad. As Usuthu aims to climb higher on the Betway Premiership table after a challenging start, Zwane sees Kwinika as a key player who could solidify their defense.
“Kaizer Chiefs defender (Zitha)Kwinika is on the radar of AmaZulu. His name has been mentioned in the discussions, and it is Arthur Zwane who was his coach at Chiefs who wants him. Arthur knows the player well and he rates him highly, and that’s why he sees a role for him to play at AmaZulu,” a source revealed.
Could Kwinika be the answer to defence?
With AmaZulu’s defensive struggles evident this season, Kwinika’s experience and familiarity with Zwane’s coaching style could make him an ideal fit. A formal approach from AmaZulu is expected soon. Which could potentially set the stage for an impactful transfer that benefits both the player and the team.
As the January transfer window approaches. All eyes will be on Chiefs and AmaZulu FC to see if this reunion becomes a reality. Will Kwinika seize the opportunity for more game time and help AmaZulu turn their season around? Only time will tell.
