Kaizer Chiefs have three new players injured ahead of their home match against TS Galaxy this coming weekend.
The latest player to get injured is Thabo Cele. The 28-year-old midfielder was subbed off during Amakhosi’s 2-1 defeat to Golden Arrows on Saturday. Since joining Chiefs in January, Cele has been the team’s most influential player.
Speaking after the club’s 10th defeat of the season in the league, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi said his team has been unlucky with injuries
“I prefer to comment on the general performance of the team and not individual players,” he said after the match.
“I think we have been unlucky with the injuries we have had. Right now our right-back [Reeve Frosler] and our left centre-back [Rushwin Dortley], Thabo Cele and Tashreeq Morris, who are our latest additions, are out injured. We feel that it’s a lot to take, but we have to keep our energy positive,” he said.
Kaizer Chiefs fighting for top eight
Speaking to SABC Sport, Nabi said losing Cele affected his side.
“The injury of Thabo Cele in the first half, disorganised us a bit in the second half, in terms of liasing with the defence and attack, we didn’t start well in the second half.
“But the changes we made made us come back into the game, then we conceded a goal out of nowhere and after that it’s very difficult to come back from that,” said the Kaizer Chiefs coach.
Amakhosi’s fight this season is to return to the top eight, having finished 10th in the last campaign.
Will Nabi coach Chiefs next season?
