Kaizer Chiefs have moved quickly to finalise a deal to sign a player departing from arch rivals Orlando Pirates

Chiefs are looking to ensure that they do not have the same season as their two previous campaigns.

It is not usual that players move directly between the Soweto giants, however, it has happened in the recent past. This is usually only through free agency, with names like Jimmy Tau, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Brilliant Khuzwayo coming to mind. Those players moved between Chiefs and Pirates without the clubs being involved in direct negotiations with each other.

Monyane set for Chiefs move

Then last season, however, Chiefs and Pirates negotiated a historic first ever transfer between each other. Amakhosi acquired the services of Bongani Sam from the Buccaneers, with the left-back signing for a reported R3 million fee. This publication then reported on Friday evening that Thabiso Monyane could be next to cross the divide.

Monday night, those news escalated with an update claiming Chiefs are in advanced talks with Monyane. Now there has been even further movement in that regard. This publication reported on Tuesday this publication reported that Amakhosi had sealed the deal with the player.

But before those news, Monyane had already penned an emotional farewell letter to Pirates. This ahead of starting his new chapter as a Chiefs player.

Emotional goodbye to Pirates

“As I close this chapter of my life, I’m filled with a mix of emotions – sadness to leave behind the only football home I’ve ever known, but also excitement for the new journey ahead. joining the institution at 12 to 25, this club has been my everything. I’ve grown as a player, but more importantly, as a person. I’m grateful for the trophies we’ve won, the memories we’ve created, and the friendships that will last a lifetime. To the fans, thank you for your unwavering support. Your cheers, chants, constructive criticism and passion fueled me every step of the way. I’ll never forget the electric atmosphere you created on match days.

“To the chairman, staff, technical team, and players, past and present, thank you for your hard work, dedication, and camaraderie. You’ve all played a role in shaping me into the player I am today. As I embark on my new journey, I’ll carry the lessons, values, and memories from this club with me always. I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity to represent this amazing club and be part of its history. Thank you, Orlando Pirates, for an unforgettable 13 years.” Monyane wrote on his social media.
