Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has explained why the club made certain signings before the start of the season.
Having brought in Nasreddine Nabi and his technical team in July, Amakhosi signed a total of seven players before the start of the season. Despite a promising start, the club has had a mixed bag of fortunes throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
The club is looking to go back to the drawing board this transfer window. Kaizer Chiefs have so far made two signings this January according to reports but the club has yet to confirm.
“We brought in about seven players, new technical stuff, and I think everyone saw exactly how the season began from a technical perspective,” Kaizer Jnr said as per iDiski Times.
“Of course, the season as you know there’s been a lot of changes. We’ve always requested for the supporters and the stakeholders to understand.
Kaizer Chiefs to make more signings
“Having said all of that, we deliberately took the approach of signing from the back first. Foundation was very important to us and I think it’s kind of a conundrum now looking at that. We’ve conceded the goals that we’ve conceded.
“But the plan has always been the same – to begin with reinforcing the foundation, the defence and then move forward. If you look, we went to sign, I think it was Gaston Sirino as our first offensive player,” said Motaung Jnr.
“We’ve scored the third highest amount of goals, even with that approach, I think the chances that we created, the chances that they’ve been missing. If we had taken the chances we created and not conceded, it’s ifs and buts,” he continued.
It remains to be seen if Kaizer Chiefs will make signings which can make an immediate impact. Gaston Sirino was the only one of the new players who showed intent.
