Kaizer Chiefs are on the verge of signing several stars

Kaizer Chiefs might be falling on the table, but their ability to attract top talent remains.

While it will never replicate the feeling of playing for your country (not that I know), to play for Orlando Pirates or AmaKhosi holds nearly the same weight as playing for Bafana Bafana – both fandoms are populated across the country, attracting large attendances in most matches.

You’ll often see their shirts worn at games that neither is in while their merchandise gets sold outside the stadium with none of the local teams stock in sight.

The Kaizer Chiefs are in a spot of bother, but they’re still piquing the interest of numerous stars, including Oswin Appollis, Asanele Velebayi, Feisal Salum, Bongani Zuni and Percy Tau.

Kaizer Chiefs targets

The Soweto Giants have been back and forth with Appollis and Velebayi since the winter transfer window, with both players keen to join the club but a deal never getting over the line – Tau, Salum and Zuni are new targets.

There’s a good chance they land two of these six players this January, but a third or a fourth is not out of the question.

Velebayi interest continues

Veleabayi’s agent, Lance Davids, confirmed Kaizer Chiefs intent, saying, “So, of course, there was a lot of back and forth – Chiefs put in an offer, and the value was too low for Cape Town Spurs,

“Chiefs came back with a second offer and gave, in my opinion, a valuation that was very fair with add-ons, and they also didn’t accept that. They thought the valuation was low, and then they stopped just there.

“In my opinion, I thought the valuation that Cape Town Spurs was looking at for Velebayi, compared to Oswin Appollis, it’s a no-brainer – you can’t compare [the two players’ value]. At this point, what did Oswin achieved in the last year?

“So I think the valuation of Velebayi was crazy; I think Chiefs, to be honest, was very fair on their proposal and, in my opinion, they could have still add some more add-ons.

“Of course, they did not because they thought they were also fair on their proposal, and the deal fell through… I’ll be honest, at first Cape Town Spurs wanted R12 million, they came down to R10 million, and Chiefs’ offer was R5 million plus players.”
