Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United battle for Royal AM’s number one, according to Soccer Laduma.

Chiefs may not be the only Premier Soccer League(PSL) club eyeing Royal AM goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo. Just days after reports linked Chiefs to the 31-year-old shot-stopper, new information reveals that SuperSport United has also entered the race.

SuperSport’s backup plan for Goss

A source close to the matter confirms that the Tshwane-based club is considering Ngcobo as a potential replacement for Ricardo Goss, who remains on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. The decision ultimately depends on discussions between SuperSport United and Sundowns regarding Goss’ future.

“You know SuperSport United has only two other senior team goalkeepers, Thakasani Mbanjwa and Samkelo Xulu? Ricardo Goss is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, so that’s why they are inquiring about Xolani (Ngcobo) from Royal AM. They don’t know if Sundowns will recall Goss, so they don’t want to be caught off guard. They are closely monitoring Royal AM’s situation regarding Ngcobo with the aim to sign him next season,” the source revealed.

Kaizer Chiefs still leading the race

Despite SuperSport United’s interest, Kaizer Chiefs remain at the forefront of Ngcobo’s potential suitors. However, Royal AM’s internal issues could impact any potential move.

“For now, the main obstacle is the situation at Royal AM. Even if players want to move on, it’s difficult due to the issue of curatorship. But Chiefs are leading the pursuit of Ngcobo. However, everything will depend on how the situation unfolds at the end of the season, as SuperSport United is also making inquiries about him,” the source added.

Which club is the best fit for Ngcobo?

SuperSport United initially sought a permanent goalkeeper before signing Goss on a two-season loan at the start of the current campaign. However, should Sundowns recall Goss, United will need a new first-choice keeper.

Despite this, Kaizer Chiefs could offer a more appealing destination for Ngcobo. With their rich history and the potential for more game time, Amakhosi might be the ideal next step for the Royal AM goalkeeper. The battle for Ngcobo is heating up—will Chiefs secure their target, or will SuperSport United swoop in at the last minute?
