Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are in a race to sign Polokwane City defender Thabang Matuludi.

The 25-year-old has impressed with Rise and Shine this season scoring two goals in six matches. He was also part of the Bafana Bafana which played in this year’s Cosafa tournament. According to reports, Chiefs, Stellenbosch and Pirates are in a race to sign the star.

“Chiefs were leading the race to sign him, and unfortunately for him, the move didn’t happen before the last transfer window closed,” an insider told Citizen.

“There have been enquiries about him and I’m told Orlando Pirates are also monitoring the situation. Remember Kaizer Chiefs wanted to also get his teammate Oswin Appollis but that move also didn’t happen because the City chairman is a hard man to convince into selling.”

Orlando Pirates have enough defenders this season and Matuludi might likely join Kaizer Chiefs or Stellies. Amakhosi are in need of a quality right-back this season.

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker is also looking for a right-back since the departure of Deano Van Rooyen this season. Kaizer Chiefs have signed four defenders this season unlike rivals Orlando Pirates, who only brought in Van Rooyen.

Where will Matuludi end up going in January?
