Kairo Forbes criticised for being the face of Ackerman brand

Kairo Forbes, daughter of DJ Zinhle and the late AKA, has sparked debate online after being featured in Ackermans’ latest advertising campaign.

The young influencer, alongside her mother, has been a prominent face for the clothing brand in recent months.

The advert has drawn significant attention, eliciting mixed reactions from social media users.

While many praised Kairo’s achievements, others criticized the brand’s decision to feature her, arguing that she is already privileged.

One Twitter user commented, “We need to be honest about Kairo. Why is she on every ad? First Nedbank, now Ackermans, yet she comes from a wealthy family. Meanwhile, many underprivileged children, who are the real customers, go unrecognized. Black South African kids also deserve these opportunities.”

Another echoed similar sentiments, saying, “I’m not against Ackermans using Kairo and Khumo from Scandal to advertise school uniforms. But these kids are privileged. They likely attend schools where uniforms like these aren’t even required. This doesn’t reflect the reality of Ackermans’ real customers.”

Adding to the critique, the user noted, “Ackermans’ real customers are grandmothers in rural areas using SASSA cards to buy uniforms for their grandchildren. Kairo and Khumo are well taken care of. These opportunities should go to disadvantaged children who truly reflect the brand’s target audience.”
