Johannesburg Water to implement 18-hour shutdown

Johannesburg Water will implement an 18-hour planned maintenance, resulting in a shutdown that will affect several suburbs on Friday, 16 May.

The unplanned maintenance is scheduled from 6:00 on Friday, 16 May until 00:00 on Saturday,17 May.

JOHANNESBURG WATER TO CONDUCT MAINTENANCE ON FRIDAY

Johannesburg Water said its teams will be repairing a 375mm steel pipe, and it is unclear whether water tankers will be provided.

All the streets in the following suburbs will be affected by the planned water shutdown:

  • Vandia Grove
  • Beverly Gardens
  • Bryanston
  • Parts of Ferndale
  • Osummit
  • Bryanbrink
  • Parts of Kensington B

COMMANDO SYSTEM CURRENTLY LOW

Meanwhile, on Thursday afternoon, Johannesburg Water said its commando system is currently low due to demand exceeding available capacity.

The water utility said its technical teams continue to implement the necessary measures to ensure that they system supplies fairly.

“Customers are urged to assist by practicing water conservation and using water sparingly in lower-lying areas. This will help with the recovery of the system and will benefit customers in higher-lying areas.”
