Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party in the Western Cape held a demonstration against racism at Blue Rock Estate in Somerset West over the weekend.
The party claimed the protest followed repeated incidents of racism at the upmarket estate, where black residents were allegedly asked to leave, EWN reports.
Blue Rock Estate was previously occupied by white residents only.
The MK party claimed that one of its members, who lives in the estate, has faced racism for the past two years.
In a statement, the MK party said a memorandum would be handed over to the management of Blue Rock Estate, accusing them of racism against non-white tenants.
MK Party provincial organiser Siyabonga Booysen says the affected member’s family is struggling, with the incidents impacting work, school, and their overall well-being.
The party is calling for counselling for the family and accountability from those responsible.
‘Our moral obligation compels us to actively support our communities in times of distress,’ Booysen said in an social media post.
‘We will steadfastly stand alongside them. Let us mobilise and vigorously uphold the principles of our hard-won democracy.’
The MK party gave the estate’s management seven days to respond.
