‘When it rains it pours’ would be an appropriate phrase to describe Shauwn Mkhize’s current predicament as the controversial public figure has confirmed the rumours that her multi-million rand soccer club has been seized by the South African Revenue Services (SARS).
As the rest of South Africa was excitedly preparing to bring 2024 to a close and welcome 2025’s possibilities, reality star and philanthropist Dr Shaun Mkhize was dealing with the harsh consequences of her actions as it was revealed that her La Lucia mansion was raided by multiple agencies, including the South African Police Services (SAPS) and SARS.
The public has since kept a close eye on Mam’Mkhize and her family for any developments on this eyebrow-raising story, as it reminded them of a similar incident that she went through while married to businessman Sbu Mpisane. Mam’Mkhize’s wealth and finances have been a popular topic on social media, with users constantly coming up with interesting theories and conspiracies about its origins and sources.
In a joint post, Shauwn alongside the official Royal AM FC Instagram page verified the rumour of SARS seizing ownership of the football club, which had already started circulating on the social media streets. The statement also addressed the non-payment of the club’s players and staff, apologising profusely for the inconvenience caused.
For those who are out of the loop and are wondering what the reality star could have possibly done to warrant such drastic actions from SARS, let me fill you in. SARS commissioner Edward Kieswetter revealed that the investigation into Mam’Mkhize and the construction industry at large had been ongoing for years, in an effort to ensure that they are compliant with South Africa’s tax laws. It was then revealed that the Durban tycoon was allegedly owing the agency more than R37 million in unpaid taxes, which has gotten her and her club to this point.
When stumbling upon the news, the public had much to say on the matter, with some believing that SARS and the government were unfairly targeting yet another successful black business owner. Others have expressed that they believe Shauwn deserves everything that is currently happening to her, as it is merely the consequence of her decisions and actions.
