The IFP has agreed to support a DA motion to remove the “sleepy” mayor of the eNdumeni local municipality in Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal, and is interviewing candidates to replace him.
The council meeting to remove Ndlovu is set for the end of October.
Scrolla.Africa has learned from highly placed sources that IFP Youth Brigade leader Mcebo Mkhize has been tipped to take over from Siyabonga Ndlovu.
“The leadership has decided that it won’t protect Ndlovu from the vote of no-confidence motion that the DA filed at the beginning of this month,” the source said. “There are delays, but the leadership has already called certain leaders in for interviews to replace Ndlovu.
“The IFP Youth Brigade leader in eNdumeni, Mcebo Mkhize, has been told by the party that he is a preferred candidate to replace Ndlovu,” the source said.
Xolani Msezane, the IFP caucus leader in eNdumeni, confirmed that candidates had been called for interviews to replace the mayor.
“The IFP top leadership has not yet informed us as the caucus about the official replacement of Mayor Ndlovu, but some of our comrades have told us that they have been shortlisted for interviews,” said Msezane.
The mayor’s allies told Scrolla.Africa that Ndlovu initiated an investigation aimed at unearthing allegations of sexual harassment by one of the directors in the municipality and was then targeted by angry supporters of the director.
The director, who is said to be politically powerful, is also under investigation for bullying certain senior managers in the municipality and has been accused of stealing R2-million from his previous employer.
The DA accused Ndlovu of sleeping and snoring during council meetings.
He is also accused of billing ratepayers last month with a whopping R400,000 fuel bill for his official vehicle.
