- A speeding bus crashed on the way to an IFP event, seriously injuring passengers, with the driver now facing possible action.
- Another crash involving cars allegedly racing left three people dead and led to a three-hour road closure.
At least 22 people were injured, three critically, when a bus carrying Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) supporters overturned on the R34 near Vryheid on Sunday morning.
The passengers were traveling to KwaNzimela in KwaZulu-Natal for the party’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Traffic authorities have identified speed as the cause of the crash, prompting a strong response from KZN MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma.
The accident occurred between 06h00 and 06h30 when the bus, belonging to Sun Coaches Bus Company, lost control and overturned.
Emergency services said three people were critically injured, eight were serious cases, and 11 suffered minor injuries.

Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.
Duma did not mince his words when addressing the cause of the crash.
“We will have no mercy on the driver. We want to teach him a lesson, so others learn that Alufakwa KwaZulu-Natal—there is zero tolerance for reckless driving in this province,” he stated firmly.
Meanwhile on Saturday night, a high-speed head-on collision on the R61 near Wild Coast Sun claimed three lives.
The KZN Road Traffic Inspectorate said a VW and a Toyota Tazz were allegedly racing each other when they crashed into an oncoming Toyota Yaris.
One person remains in critical condition, while three others are receiving medical treatment.
The accident resulted in a three-hour road closure, and Duma has since instructed the RTI to take a hard stance against speeding and reckless driving.
