‘I would like to see more from him’: Letsholonyane on midfielder

Kaizer Chiefs legend Reneilwe Letsholonyane has issued a challenge to the club’s midfielder Njabulo Blom as the 2024/25 season progresses.

Blom rejoined Chiefs ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, returning to the club on loan from MLS side St. Louis SC in the USA. Blom’s move to St. Louis came in January 2023, during the tenure of former Bafana Bafana defender Bradley Carnell as head coach.

However, Blom struggled for playing time after Carnell’s departure, leading to his return to Chiefs. Despite being a Bafana Bafana international, Blom has faced competition for a starting spot in the Chiefs line-up.

New coach Nasreddine Nabi has preferred to deploy Yusuf Maart, Samkelo Zwane, and Edson Castillo in midfield.

In the four league matches played this season, Blom has made two appearances. He started one match and came on as a substitute in another. The competition for places in the starting XI is fierce, with Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Mdantshane also vying for a spot.

Yeye, who is currently the SA Under-20 assistant coach, has encouraged Blom to step up his game and become a more influential figure at Chiefs.

“He’s a good player, we have seen what he can do, and he has previously performed well for the team. He has quality,” Letsholonyane told FARPost.

“Personally for me, I haven’t seen him perform since he returned to the club. I would like to see more from him, he can get there by working extra hard and putting more effort.

Letsholonyane remained mum on whether Chiefs should re-sign Blom permanently when his loan deal ends.

“That will depend on the club’s management and the coaches. It will be their decision whether he stays at the club when the loan expires, or they let go of him,” he added.
