‘I tried to sign him twice!’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has been vocal about signing players with experience for his squad.

They look to have done just that with three new players joining Chiefs during the previous transfer window.

Chiefs signed experienced players

Amakhosi went on to sign DRC international winger Glody Lilepo, striker Tashreeq Morris and Thabo Cele. The two forwards Lilepo and Morris were confirmed to have signed a 2-and-a-half year deals. While midfielder Cele, however, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Chiefs. It is no secret that they were also trying to add Thembinkosi Lorch from Mamelodi Sundowns but that didn’t happen.

Chiefs had a clear mission going into this transfer window, and that was to add quality and experience. Too often they have looked to their academy graduates in Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba, Mfundo Vilakazi and Samkelo Zwane. The lack of experience and leadership has often been exposed and cost the team cup progression and points. Thats why Nabi would be smiling from ear to ear with his latest acquisitions. Especially that of Lilepo.

Nabi happy to finally sign Lilepo

Speaking to the media ahead of the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, Nabi confirmed a long pursuit for Lilepo. The two now finally get to work together at Chiefs.

“It’s true I have been following Glody Lillepo since he was at AS Vita Club, even before going to Al Hilal. At that time at Young Africans, we even tried to bring him in, but it didn’t work out. Last season, I tried to bring him to ASFAR Rabat, it didn’t work out, but this time it has worked out (signing for Chiefs).” Said Nabi as per KickOff.com.

It remains to be seen if Lilepo has his work permit yet and can feature for Chiefs immediately. Amakhosi, would you like to see him go straight into the team for the Soweto Derby against Pirates? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
