‘I feel like I’m home honey!’ Billy Porter reflects on being on African soil for the first time

Due to unknown reasons to the South African population, an influx of American and Western celebrities and prominent figures have added Mzansi to their bucket list of travel destinations. Media personality and American queer icon Billy Porter is thrilled to share his excitement of finally getting to experience the ‘Motherland’ for the first time.

Unsurprisingly, a living legend such as Billy Porter would pop his ‘African homecoming’ cherry on a work excursion as the social butterfly is known to work just as much as he plays, if not more. In his latest venture, the ‘Pose’ superstar is on African shores and is to host the highly esteemed Earthshot Prize Awards. Billy will be splitting his hosting duties with one of Mzansi’s most coveted hosts, Bonang Matheba.

In a series of videos, an excited Billy briefly explains the essence of the Earthshot Prize Awards, giving his followers a more in-depth understanding of the important and impactful work that a platform and movement of this magnitude in a series he has titled ‘Highline Chronicles’. Continuing, he delves into the thrilling feeling of being on the African continent for the first time, highlighting how he has felt right at home during his time in the Mother City.

“I am in Africa for the first time, I don’t have words for it. It is coming home, you know…I feel like I’m home, I feel like I’m with my people, I am with my people” he says.

Billy also gave his supporters a glimpse of his escapades in Mzansi as he channels his inner Dora the explore, as he explores exciting places which include the Kalk Bay Harbour.
