Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro said although he is proud of his team, there are certain things he can’t say publicly.
The 49-year-old Spaniard has won five trophies with the Buccaneers since taking over in 2022. This season, the club has shown improvement and are involved in a title race with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Speaking to the media after his side’s 8-1 win over Marumo Gallants, Riveiro said the current Orlando Pirates squad is exceptional.
“I said it already a not long time ago, the human level of this group is something else,” he said as per iDiski Times.
“To be honest, they make us feel proud almost every day in things I cannot say publicly that belong to the privacy of the team.”
Riveiro pleased with Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates returned to winning ways when they trashed Gallants 8-1 at home and Riveiro praised Boitumelo Radiopane. The young forward scored the Buccaneers’ last goal from the penalty spot.
“Today, it was public, it was obvious to see how much they care about each other, knowing that the competition in the team for players like [Boitumelo] Radiopane, for example, it’s terrible, he is competing with a Bafana Bafana striker [Makgopa], with top goalscorer of last season, Tshegofatso Mabasa and its difficult to get minutes in a team that play with one number nine so far,” said the Bucs coach.
Riveiro is currently in his last season with Orlando Pirates but is yet to extend his stay. The Buccaneers are second in the Betway Premiership, three points behind Sundowns.
