Hugo, it’s time to unleash Relebohile Mofokeng for Bafana

PSL standout Relebohile Mofokeng is yet to feature in Bafana Bafana’s November fixtures.

Hugo Broos’ team, who are on a thirteen-game unbeaten run, qualified for Morocco following Congo’s shock loss to South Sudan last Thursday but have a chance to top the table with a win over Elya Wako’s team on Tuesday.

Bafana Bafana is one point ahead of Uganda with one game remaining.

Why no Mofokeng?

Much to the dismay of Orlando Pirates fans, Mofokeng has only featured three times since his debut on June 11, substituting Oswin Appollis in the 92nd minute to help close out Bafana Bafana’s 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe.

His next outing occurred on September 6, subbing on for Themba Zwane in the 74th minute – the Pirates star is yet to play more than twenty minutes for his country.

Bafana has already qualified for Morocco’s AFCON 2025, meaning tomorrow’s game against South Sudan is a great chance to give Mofokeng his first start and let him showcase how he can elevate a Broos side that often lacks imagination.

The 20-year-old has risen to stardom in the last two years, becoming a core player of the Orlando Pirates system, starting in all thirteen of the Sea Robbers 2024/25 games.

In fact, he scored the go-ahead goal against Stellenbosch in the MTN8 Cup final, displaying to the world why he is one of Africa’s most promising prospects.

For the first time in their history, the Pirates have won their first seven league games (and counting), during which Mofokeng has been pivotal to their success, so why has Hugo been reluctant to give him minutes?

He’s a man in form for the current best club in South Africa, which surely warrants one to be in the starting eleven, especially after qualifying and successive lacklustre performances by Oswin Appollis.

Please, Hugo, give him a chance – you won’t be disappointed.
