Kaizer Chiefs might need to go fishing in another pond after getting some bad news in their pursuit of Feisal Salum.
Azam FC reluctant to sell Kaizer Chiefs target Salum
26-year-old Tanzanian attacking midfielder Feisal Salum has shone for Azam FC in recent seasons. He bagged 19 goals last term and is ticking along nicely again in 2024-2025. His current employers have reportedly prepared a new contract for the talented schemer which would see him earn roughly R200k a month. Via Joshua Hendricks:
“We haven’t received any offers at this stage, but one thing I can say is there’s a very small chance for us to sell him,” a source within the club confirmed.
“We want to keep him and build this team around him.”
“If it happens that we sell him, it will be outside Tanzania. We cannot sell to our direct competitors. Imagine selling a weapon to your rival—no, we just cannot,” the insider emphasized. “For now, we want him to focus and help us.”
Gaxa wants Doc Khumalo for Chiefs
Former Bafana stalwart Siboniso Gaxa has called for Chiefs to revisit their approach and hire a local legend to assist their head coach Nasreddine Nabi. Doctor Khumalo, an iconic figure in South African football, was assistant to Stuart Baxter in Chiefs’ last title-winning side in 2015. Gaxa knows a thing or two about top-tier football after stints with Chiefs, Sundowns, SuperSport, Ajax, Bidvest Wits and Belgian side Lierse. He also won 54 caps for South Africa.
Dream Chiefs XI with half a dozen new signings
Fiacre Ntwari; Dillan Solomons, Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley, Fawaaz Basadien; Thabo Cele, Mduduzi Shabalala, Feisal Salum; Percy Tau, Fiston Mayele, Oswin Appollis.
Stellies left-back Fawaaz Basadien is a long-term target although it’ll take a massive offer to tempt the Winelands side to sell. They’ve already let go of the likes of Iqraam Rayners and Deano van Rooyen in recent windows. Thabo Cele was strongly linked with the club in 2023 and has recently admitted to homesickness after a stint in Russia. Can the former Bafana enforcer make a move back to South Africa?
Who should Chiefs pursue with Salum seemingly off the table?
