With the Gold Cards said to no longer work after 20 March, there are now two new South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) payment methods available.
These options will enable beneficiaries to receive their grants every month without needing to have any card. Find out more about these payment methods to be able to continue receiving grants.
NEW WAYS TO RECEIVE SASSA GRANTS
SASSA’s new offerings for grant beneficiaries seems to be a more simplified way for recipients to get paid. These SASSA payment methods will especially assist those who have been struggling to locate Postbank Black Card collection sites near them.
A payment option being made available to those with the SASSA Gold Card is similar to the one used by SRD grant beneficiaries. Recipients need their ID document and cellphone number to receive their grants.
WHAT ARE THE TWO NEW METHODS OF PAYMENT?
The agency revealed in a statement that the first new SASSA payment method for beneficiaries who use Gold Cards requires just one document. Find out more on the two options below.
CARDLESS PAYMENT METHOD
The cardless payment method is used at major retailers. These include stores such as Shoprite, Checkers, Boxer, Usave, Pick n Pay and Spar. Beneficiaries will need to have their ID with them and provide their cellphone number to be able to receive payments.
According to SASSA, the cardless payment method “will remain a permanent option” for its beneficiaries.
COLLECTION AT THE POST OFFICE
The other SASSA payment method is receiving the grant at the Post Office. Beneficiaries will need to have their ID when collecting grants.
However, this option will not be in use indefinitely. Recipients will only be able to collect grants at the Post Office until June 2025.
The Department of Social Development has urged beneficiaries planning to switch to Postbank or other banks of their choice to do the necessary before the deadline.
“We encourage all beneficiaries to act swiftly and replace their Gold Cards ahead of the deadline to avoid disruptions,” said the department.
