SuperSport United’s promising young talent, Neo Rapoo, has revealed how the transfer of his former teammate Shandre Campbell to Belgium has ignited his own aspirations for a European adventure.
Rapoo and Campbell have forged a strong bond over the years, having progressed through the ranks of SuperSport’s development teams before earning promotions to the senior squad.
Campbell’s impressive performances for SuperSport, which included five goals and six assists in 30 matches across all competitions last season, attracted the attention of Belgian giants Club Brugge, who secured his services ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The SA Under-20 international is currently honing his skills with Club Brugge’s youth team, Club NXT, in the Challenger Pro League, where he has already made a significant impact, scoring four goals in three matches.
Meanwhile, Rapoo is slowly establishing himself as a key player for Matsatsantsa this season, making seven appearances in all competitions.
RAPOO: CAMPBELL’S BELGIAN MOVE FUELS MY EUROPEAN DREAM
Rapoo says Campbell’s successful move to Belgium has made him become more hungry to seal a move abroad. He believes he has all it takes to move abroad, as he started on the same level as Campbell.
The talented defender further cited that he hopes to be playing abroad as soon as possible.
“It inspires me every day to see my boy [Shandre Campbell] doing so well overseas. I started playing with him at the age of 13,” Rapoo told FARPost.
“It’s amazing. I definitely want to see myself abroad as soon as I can. I just have to keep on working hard, and then I will get my chance to go there.
“It’s all about God’s timing and trusting his work. I just have to keep on being dedicated, and I will see doors opening for me.
“If he [Campbell] is succeeding abroad, I believe I also got all it takes to succeed abroad also, whenever my opportunity comes up.”
