How Orlando Pirates can lineup against MC Alger

Orlando Pirates will field a strong lineup when they take on Algerian giants MC Alger on Tuesday evening at the Stade du 5 Juliet stadium.

The two teams face each other in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarterfinal.

The Buccaneers have not played in the last eight of the competition since reaching the final in 2013. Having finished unbeaten in their group, Pirates will now look to get past a stubborn Alger side looking to the Champions League for the first time in nearly 50 years.

How will Orlando Pirates lineup for their CAF CL match against MC Alger?

Sipho Chaine is expected to start in goals, having been the Buccaneers’ first-choice keeper for two seasons now.

Defence

Jose Riveiro might opt to start with a 3-4-2-1 formation like he did against Sundowns. Thapelo Xoxi, Mbekezile Mbokazi and Nkosinathi Sibisi will be in the heart of the defence. Deano van Rooyen will slot in at right-back with Deon Hotto playing at left-back. With a lineup of three centre-backs, Orlando Pirates will be aiming to avoid leaking goals.

Makhaula will be key in the midfield

Midfield

Makhehlene Makhaula could very well play with Goodman Mosele in the middle with Releboheng Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota on the flanks. Nkota and Mofokeng’s combo has not really worked and someone like Kabelo Dlamini might be preferred over Nkota.

Forward

Given it’s an away game, Riveiro will likely start with Evidence Makgopa upfront as opposed to Tshegofatso Mabasa. Makgopa completes the Orlando Pirates lineup and with his Afcon experience, he might tap in an away goal.
