The Department of Energy brought much-needed smiles to the faces of South Africa’s motorists earlier this week when they confirmed decreases in both the petrol and diesel prices for April.

It represents the second consecutive month where prices are set to drop after four straight months of increases.

The Department of Energy announced different prices decreases for Inland and Coastal regions.

Fuel prices were adjusted as follows:

Diesel 0.05% decrease of 84 cents decrease of 88 cents
Diesel 0.005% decrease of 86 cents decrease of 90 cents
Illuminating Paraffin decrease of 82 cents decrease of 84 cents

Prices at the coast became comparatively cheaper than the cost inland.

1. The international price of petroleum products, driven mainly by oil prices

2. The rand/dollar exchange rate used in the purchase of these products
