Bafana Bafana have secured their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations(Afcon) with two matches remaining.
This achievement follows Congo Brazzaville’s 3-2 defeat to South Sudan on Thursday afternoon. Under the guidance of coach Hugo Broos, the team has qualified for the continental tournament back-to-back, having reached the semifinals earlier this year.
Earlier today, Bafana traveled to Uganda with the intention of finalizing their qualification. Shortly after arriving in Kampala, they received the news of their qualification for the AFCON due to Congo’s loss.
How did Bafana qualify for Afcon?
Bafana currently has eight points and two matches left to play, while Congo, with only four points, cannot surpass the 1996 AFCON champions even if they win their final game. Congo needed to beat Sudan in order to stand a chance of qualification. The Sudanese are already out of the running despite their impressive win.
When are Bafana in action?
Bafana will face off against Uganda in Kampala on Friday at 15:00 in an Afcon qualifier match. A win will see South Africa top the group while defeat will see The Cranes secure first place.
Broos’ men will host Sudan in Cape Town in their final qualifier match next Tuesday.
