The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours and damaging wind in KZN.
The warning is valid on Sunday, 30 March.
LATEST KZN WEATHER WARNING
The weather service said scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over most parts of KZN but isolated over the north-eastern parts on Sunday with a possibility of severe thunderstorms accompanied by damaging winds, excessive lightning, hail and heavy downpours leading to localised impacts.
“Damaging winds with excessive lightning, hail, and heavy downpours leading to localised flooding are expected over most parts of KZN except the north-eastern parts and the extreme north-western parts on Sunday,” SAWS said.

The South African Weather Service has urged residents in the following areas have been urged to take caution or avoid travelling on bridges and roads in low lying areas as these may be susceptible to flooding and there may be sinkholes.
Additionally, the weather service urged residents to avoid outdoor activities as lightning, hail and flooding may result in injuries or death.

POSSIBLE IMPACTS
The expected inclement weather in KZN will result in:
- Localised damage to infrastructure, settlements, vehicles, livelihood and livestock
- Localised flooding of susceptible roads
- Localised injuries and danger to life due to lightning
- Power surges due to excessive lightning
WARNING ISSUED FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN PARTS OF MPUMALANGA
KZN is not the only province that will experience inclement weather this weekend. The SAWS has also forecast severe thunderstorms in Mpumalanga.
The weather service said severe thunderstorms resulting in damaging winds, excessive lightning, hail, and heavy downpours leading to localised flooding are expected over the escarpment and Lowveld of Mpumalanga on Sunday, 30 March.
