The Department of Health has announced that it will host a media briefing on 10 April 2025 at 14:00 to provide an update on various health issues in South Africa.

The briefing follows the commemoration of World Health Day (7 April 2025), making April a significant month for health awareness. This celebration aims to raise awareness about a particular health topic and highlights a World Health Organisation priority area of concern.

In South Africa, there is a two-tier healthcare system. That includes a broad subsidised public sector and a limited but high-quality private sector. There is a substantial funding difference between public and private healthcare services. As a result, the best experts and doctors go to the private sector.

Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi and provincial MECs will discuss health issues, including the recruitment of doctors and health professionals and the procurement of health.

Equally important, the announcement of the Ministerial Advisory Committee and the implementation of the National Health Insurance will be discussed, among many other issues.

The briefing will be held at 14:00 on the sidelines of the National Health Council meeting, otherwise known as MinMEC in other government sectors. Media members will be gathered at the Council for Medical Schemes Offices, Centurion in Pretoria.

A follow-up report discussing the outcomes of this briefing will be provided.

Which particular health issue are looking forward to be discussed?
