Meanwhile, according to the 27-year-old winger Monnapule Saleng’s childhood friend Boikanyo Maine, the 2022-2023 PSL Player of the Season is earning as little as R70k a month. That number, if true, pales in comparison with some of the league’s top earners, or indeed a few clubmates, primarily Patrick Maswanganyi, Deon Hotto, Evidence Makgopa and even Zakhele Lepasa.

He’s also now the youngest player ever to score three away goals in a single Champions League campaign for the club. Next up for Pirates is a PSL clash with Polokwane on Sunday, 06 April at 15:00. The second leg against MC Alger is on Wednesday, 09 April at 18:00. Will the 20-year-old start in that match?
