‘HAUNTED’ KEMPTON PARK HOSPITAL HAS VISITORS SPOOKED

In a clip posted on TikTok, popular South African “ghost hunters” Matt Muller and Nigel Mullinder led a team of visitors into the Kempton Park Hospital.

The duo – known for visiting alleged haunted sites around the country –  visited the abandoned site after dark and recorded their experience.

In one clip – which has over one million views 0 the group was spooked when the fluorescent lights of an empty room adjacent suddenly exploded.  In another clip, the group visited the children’s ward, where hundreds of babies reportedly died at the hands of bogus paediatrician André Esterhuizen.

More footage shows the group taking a look at the Kempton Park Hospital theater, basement, and bathrooms.

In the comments section, social media users in the medical profession claimed to have also experienced paranormal activity.

@ginomaseko: “I see a ghost every night I am on duty. It’s nothing new.”

@bammizo: “As a nurse working at a regular hospital, I have experienced a ghost. And it changed my beliefs.”

@laura_lee: “Bells are ringing, but there is no one in the bed, and there are whistles around the nurse station. I experience so much on night duty!”

PLANS TO REOPEN?

In 1996, Kempton Park Hospital closed due to authorities claiming it was underused and a “waste” of taxpayer money.

The 350-bed facility – which was the largest hospital in Gauteng at the time –  was built in 1978 and cost R30 million to construct. It reportedly had equipment valued at R10 million inside.

Today, it lies abandoned and is a hotspot for vagrants.

Last year, the Democratic Alliance appealed to the Gauteng Provincial Government to reopen the Kempton Park Hospital.  According to the party, the site costs R6 million a year to guard by security services.

It said a statement: “This unused hospital should be used to alleviate the influx of patients at neighbouring hospitals like Tembisa Hospital.

“Or it could be commercialised to encourage the growth of Kempton Park’s economy.”

Government has yet to issue a directive on its plans for the abandoned hospital.
