A 48-year-old female police officer stationed at SAPS Kabega Park in Gqeberha was arrested this morning, 7 May 2025, on fraud and money laundering charges.
GQEBERHA SAPS OFFICER ARRESTED
According to a SAPS media statement, the arrest occurred at around 09:00 at the Kabega Park Police Station. The suspect was arrested by members of the SAPS Eastern Cape’s Murder for Money Task Team. The charges allegedly stem from an ongoing investigation linked to a case registered at SAPS Mount Road in Gqeberha.
The officer is expected to appear before the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 08 May 2025.
“SAPS reaffirms its commitment to accountability and the rule of law, ensuring that all members implicated in criminal activities face due process, ” the statement said.
GQEBERHA CHURCH ROBBED
The South African previously reported that five armed and masked men robbed a church in Booysen Park, Gqeberha, at gunpoint, and drove off with the priest’s car.
It is alleged that the incident occurred at around 18:30 on Monday, 05 May 2025, during an evening service. The robbers stormed the church, demanded cellphones and other valuables from the congregants.
About 50 Gqeberha church members were stripped of their cellphones and other possessions. The attackers then hijacked the church priest’s white Toyota RAV4 and used it as their getaway vehicle. SAPS later found the stolen vehicle abandoned in Chatty 5.
