The team had a disappointing run of results before the break, failing to pick up maximum points in their last two league matches, against Cape Town City and Richards Bay, respectively.
‘Good team’
As the team readies itself to face Golden Arrows this weekend, midfielder Pule Mmodi is aware of the challenges his former team poses, saying, “Golden Arrows is a good team, and with their new coach, they’ll likely have a different approach. However, we’re focused on our own game plan, and we’re confident that we can get a result.”
The FIFA break provided the team with a much-needed opportunity to regroup, reassess and return revitalised.
This match against Golden Arrows marks the beginning of Kaizer Chiefs’ final push in the league, as the 2024/25 season enters its final phase.
With only a handful of matches remaining, every point counts, and Mmodi knows that the team needs to be at its best.
“We’re aware that the league is entering its final stretch, and we need to be consistent in our performances,” he says.
“We are confident that we can make a strong finish to the season.”
Mmodi says his confidence is shared by the rest of the team, and he believes that their current position in the league table can be a motivating factor.
Currently sitting in mid-table on 29 points from 22 matches, Kaizer Chiefs still have an opportunity to move up the log standings.
“We’re currently eighth on the table, but we still have a chance to finish in the top four,” he notes.
“We’ll be facing teams that are above us, and that’s a great opportunity for us to make up ground.”
Despite their inconsistent form, the winger believes that the team has been playing well, although results have not gone their way as desired.
“I think, to be fair, we’ve been playing good football, but we need to work on winning games and scoring goals,” he says.
“As a forward player, I know that I need to contribute more in terms of goals. We strive to win all the games that are remaining and give our best.”
The Theunissen-born player’s own form has been impressive this season, and he attributes his success to hard work.
When asked about his season so far, he explains, “At the beginning of the season, I faced challenges adapting to the new coaches and staff. However, I think for me to be on form at this time of the season is because I have been working hard and improving where I was lacking.
“For me it’s all about hard work. Each time I play I give all my best for the team because its only for 90 minutes so, as a player, you just have to give all your best and after that you will see the good results,” he concludes.
The match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium kicks off at 15:30.
