Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau is set to join Qatari outfit Qatar SC after leaving Al Ahly this week.
The 30-year-old forward reportedly finalised his transfer to Qatar SC after he reached an agreement with Egyptian giants Al Ahly over a contract termination. According to Kick-Off, Tau will undergo a medical before signing his contract.
Percy Tau was linked with several teams including Kaizer Chiefs and Zamalek in the past months. The Bafana star fell out of favour with Al Ahly coach and was used sparingly, especially in the league.
Before joining the Red Devils in 2021, Tau was with Brighton and Hove Albion. He was signed from Mamelodi Sundowns for around R50 million but was loaned out shortly after failing a UK work permit. After loan spells with Union SG, Club Brugge and Anderlecht, the ex-Downs attacker was recalled by Brighton.
Percy Tau moves on from Al Ahly
On 10 January 2021, 905 days after signing for The Seagulls, he made his debut coming on as a substitute in an FA Cup third-round tie away at Newport County. Three days Percy Tau made his Premier League debut against Manchester City where he impressed.
In August 2021, the ‘Lion of Judah’ made a surprise move to Al Ahly reuniting with former coach Pitso Mosimane. The move was seen by many as a step backwards for a player who just achieved his dream of playing in the English Premier League.
In total, Percy Tau has won 11 trophies, including two Champions League for Al Ahly. The Bafana forward was only at Brighton for seven months where he made just six appearances for the club.
