Durban’s recent rainfall has transformed some of the waterfalls in and around the area into breathtaking spectacles of nature. If glorious waterfalls in flood are your thing, here are four fabulous waterfalls within two hours of Durban to check out…

1. Shongweni Falls/Wekeweke Falls

Where: Shongweni Nature Reserve (about 45 minutes from Durban)

Shongweni Falls, also known as Kirk Falls or Wekeweke Falls, tumbles down a rocky cliff surrounded by indigenous forests, creating a stunning natural scene. The falls are part of the Shongweni Nature Reserve, which is well-known for its pristine environment and rich biodiversity.

2. Howick Falls

Where: Howick, Midlands (about 1.5 hours from Durban)

Known locally as “KwaNogqaza,” meaning “Place of the Tall One,” Howick Falls stands about 95 meters tall, dropping dramatically into a large pool. It’s one of KZN’s most popular waterfalls and a perfect spot for capturing stunning photos.

3. Paradise Valley Waterfall

Where: Paradise Valley Nature Reserve, Pinetown (about 20 minutes from Durban)

4. Karkloof Falls

Karkloof Falls, at 105 meters high, offers an impressive sight amidst a lush forest. Known for its tranquility, this spot is perfect for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle for a few hours of solitude and natural beauty.
