Kaizer Chiefs find themselves in ninth position in the Betway Premiership with things not going accordingly for the Soweto giants.

Chiefs see their record after nine games this season being identical to their two previous campaigns.

The appointment of Nabi was supposed to be the beginning of a new era for the club. The Tunisian mentor is believed to be the man to lead Chiefs back into their glory days era. The fact that the club had two separate negotiations for him and ended up going back to pay compensation says a lot. He was first primed to join the club at the beginning of last season before negotiations hit a snag.

Chiefs have not had a good start under Nasreddine Nabi

Since coming in, there had been renewed optimism at Chiefs. Early results as well as signings looked to be on the positive side. But things have since slowed down immensely as the Glamour Boys find themselves in ninth on the log. Furthermore, they’re struggling to both score and stop conceding goals at the back. Some sections of the fanbase have also started to question the capabilities of Nabi.

Nabi again made a public cry, sending a message to Chiefs bosses saying he needs better quality! So here are four players that have been linked with Amakhosi that can change their season if signed in January!

Four signings that can transform their season

  1. Fiston Mayele : The priority position for Chiefs to strengthen in the coming window has to be a target man. It is no secret that the DRC international is Nabi’s preferred target for this role. The pair worked well together at Yanga SC and formed a close relationship off the field. It is believed he tried to get Mayele to the club in the previous window, but to no avail. Recent reports claimed that they will be coming back in for Mayele with an improved R20 million bid FC Pyramid.

2.   Feisal Salum : The Tanzanian international is another player that is familiar to Nabi. It has previously been reported that assistant coach Cedric Kaze has recommended the Salum to Chiefs. Both Kaze and Nabi worked with the FC Azam player while he was still at Yanga. A wanted man, it is believed Mamelodi Sundowns tried to break the bank for Salum in the previous window. Simba SC in his native are also rumoured to be in his ear. A recent report cited the Glamour Boys making a competitive offer for his services in January. He would offer experience, creativity and goals should the attacking midfielder join.

Long-term targets

3.   Percy Tau : The Bafana Bafana international is thought to be a long standing target for Chiefs. Tau represents everything that they need at the moment. Creativity, goals, international experience, leadership and a winning mentality. With rumours that Tau’s deal could be terminated by Al Ahly in January, this could open the door for Amakhosi.

4.  Thabo Cele : The box-to-box midfielder has made his love for Chiefs no secret. Cele has also been linked with them several times. Now with his deal experiencing in June 2025 in Russia, and him reportedly being home sick, it could finally happen. Should the Amakhosi top brass convince both him and his club Fakel Voronezh to part ways six months earlier, it could benefit all parties. The KZN native would add energy, power, Gile, tenacity, technique and experience to the club’s midfield. Cele would surely be an upgrade on their current midfield options.

Would this be a dream window for Amakhosi?
