Former Sports, Arts, and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa, alongside his co-accused Jehan Mackay, is currently fighting serious corruption charges.
This case is linked to alleged bribes amounting to R1.6 million, reportedly paid to Kodwa between April 2015 and February 2018. The accusations revolve around violations of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (PRECCA) and the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.

Recent Court Proceedings
Kodwa and Mackay made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Specialized Commercial Crimes Court at Palm Ridge last Thursday. The two men are out on R30,000 bail and intend to plead not guilty during the upcoming trial.
During the hearing, State Prosecutor Neville Mogagabe confirmed that a request from Mackay to dismiss all charges is currently under review by the Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Andrew Chauke.

Next Steps in the Legal Proceedings
The court has scheduled the next appearance for October 24, at which time it is anticipated that a decision regarding the dismissal of charges will be reached. It’s important to note that there have been complications concerning the receipt of Mackay’s application, which has contributed to delays in the case.
In a notable development, Kodwa’s legal team, led by Advocate Zola Majavu, has now shifted strategy and filed for a withdrawal of charges against the former minister, spurred by discussions held with Chauke.
As the legal processes unfold, the spotlight remains on the implications of these charges for former Minister Zizi Kodwa and the journey towards a resolution in this high-profile corruption case.
