Former Kaizer Chiefs defender linked to a Betway Premiership, but will he make the move?

Sekhukhune United has reportedly shown strong interest in signing former Bafana Bafana defender, Siyanda Xulu, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. After parting ways with SuperSport United at the end of the 2023/2024 season, Xulu has been without a club, sparking speculation about his next move.

Is Xulu joining Sekhukhune ?

Sources suggest that Sekhukhune United, also known as Babina Noko, has emerged as the latest South African club to pursue the experienced central defender. Xulu, who enjoyed stints with top PSL clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, has also been reportedly sought after by clubs in Turkey and the Gulf region.

A well-placed source told this publication, “Look, Siyanda did have options. Even before he joined SuperSport, but it looks like that is on hold for now because Sekhukhune have shown interest in him.”

Xulu’s experience would undoubtedly be a valuable asset to Sekhukhune United. The 32-year-old defender has over 25 caps for Bafana Bafana and has played for multiple top-tier clubs across Europe and South Africa, which could provide significant depth to Babina Noko’s defense.

Why he could be the missing piece

Xulu’s potential arrival at Sekhukhune United could provide a much-needed boost to the team’s backline. The source further emphasised, “He would add experience to the team and can help coach (Lehlohonolo) Seema, who is doing well with the team.”

Given Xulu’s wealth of experience, including his time in the Russian Premier League with FC Rostov and the Israeli Premier League with Hapoel Tel Aviv, his leadership could be pivotal for Sekhukhune United. With coach Lehlohonolo Seema making strides with the team, Xulu could help further stabilize the defense and guide the younger players in the squad.

Xulu: From Kaizer Chiefs to international experience

Siyanda Xulu’s career has seen him play for various clubs across Europe and South Africa. After having a professional career with Maritzburg United, he also played for Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and SuperSport United, as well as abroad with FC Rostov, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Turan-T IK. His international experience includes over 25 appearances for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana.

Xulu’s career also includes a notable stint in Europe. Where he won the Russian Cup with FC Rostov in the 2013/2014 season. Despite a brief trial at Barcelona in 2010 and a failed attempt at Arsenal in the same year. Xulu’s talent and resilience have kept him in high demand across multiple leagues.

As of now, the possibility of Siyanda Xulu signing with Sekhukhune United is very real. But other clubs could still enter the race for his signature. “You know things change quickly in football. And maybe another team might come for him, but let’s wait and see,” the source added.
