Biography
Nyiko Floyd Shivambu, popularly called Mayweather, is a South African politician serving as a member of parliament for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Shivambu is the Deputy President and lieutenant commander-in-chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters. He also serves as the party’s Parliamentary Chief Whip in the South African Parliament, the Trade and Industry Portfolio Committee, and the Standing Committee on Finance. He also serves in the Rural Economy, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Committee as a Member of the Pan African Parliament.

Nyiko Floyd Shivambu was born in the rural village of Mahonisi, Malamulele, Limpopo Province, on 1 January 1983. He celebrated his 41st birthday on January 1, 2024. Shivambu was one of seven children raised in a house without running water and no electricity. Shivambu’s parents were informal traders who sold handmade duvets and pillowcases in nearby towns.

In 2019, a Twitter user posted a photo of the mansion and claimed it belonged to EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu. However, a businesswoman reacted to the tweet, claiming it was false because the house belonged to him.
The man, Boyki Maapea, wrote, “This is my house. I was born and raised in the same village. I’m just a businessman. People are sending out wrong information with the aim of discrediting politicians.”
Shivambu also reacted to the tweet, writing, “So where’s the house? When are you giving me keys now that you gave me a house?”

Floyd Shivambu is married to Siphesihle Pezi-Shivambu. She has been called his ANC sweetheart. The couple tied the knot in 2017 in a private traditional ceremony held at Mahosini village outside Malamulele in Limpopo. There were reports that the wedding guests were not allowed to take pictures.
Education
In 2001, Floyd Shivambu graduated from the Mphambo High School in Malamulele. He later went to study at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He initially intended to study to become a technician but changed his academic focus to earning a bachelor’s degree and an Honours Degree in Political Studies and International Relations.
In 2014, he graduated with a master’s degree, with distinction, in political studies. Shivambu was elected president of the University of Witwatersrand’s Student Representative Body and joined the African National Congress Youth League in his third year.
He announced on 6 February 2018 that he had been accepted to the Wits School of Governance to pursue a doctoral degree. His thesis was to be focused on SA’s transformation policies, legislation, and practices: ownership and control of JSE-listed companies.
