Further searches revealed that the suspects were in possession of South African currency totalling R1,480,050, which was concealed in black plastic bags.
Following the discovery, the four individuals without the requisite documents were arrested for being in South Africa illegally.
A case was promptly opened against them. The concealed money was counted and verified to ensure it was not counterfeit before being deposited into the state bank account. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the origins and intended use of the money.
This incident underscores the importance of routine checks and stringent border management protocols in maintaining national security. The BMA continues to be vigilant in its efforts to prevent illegal activities and ensure compliance with immigration laws.
