Singer Rethabile has expressed her heartbreak over the passing of her mother, Winnie Khumalo. The legendary Afro-pop star passed away last month after a brief illness.

RETHABILE KHUMALO REFLECTS ON HER LOSS

Rethabile Khumalo is shaken by the loss of her mother, Winnie Khumalo. She took to Instagram stories to express her grief and also reflected on the emotional toll of the heartbreaking events that she has faced in her life.

Expressing her grief, she wrote, “First, I was poisoned, and now I’ve lost my mom. Lord, ngenzeni emhlabeni (What did I do on earth)?”

RETHABILE KHUMALO’S POISONING ORDEAL

In June 2024, Winnie Khumalo shared the shocking news that her daughter, Rethabile, had been poisoned. She also revealed that Rethabile spent six days in the hospital and underwent three surgeries for treatment.

According to the singer, Rethabile had allegedly been poisoned by a friend.

“It’s been six days in the hospital now… I felt it was only right to share this sad news with her supporters. She’s already had three surgeries, and we’re hoping @rethabile_rsa will recover soon, but right now, things aren’t looking good… She’s been in and out. Please include her in your prayers. The challenges of being a parent,” she shared.

A few days later, she provided an update, stating that Rethabile was no longer in danger and that the prayers had worked wonders.

WHAT HAPPENED TO WINNIE?

The singer passed away on Tuesday, January 7, after a brief illness. She died en route to the hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“She was really not well. Unfortunately, on their drive to the hospital, that’s when she passed away. When they arrived at the hospital, they pronounced her dead on arrival. It is expected that we are devastated. We are at a loss.,” said her sister and representative for the family, Tshepi Akeepile, to SABC.

She also added, “Winnie had a son, Ntando Khumalo, and daughter, Rethabile Khumalo, and three grandchildren, three sisters and her mother.”
