- The municipal manager allegedly kept paying fired EFF councillors for six months and gave them R40,000 meant for the party’s bank account.
- The fired councillors kept attending meetings to vote with the ANC despite orders to remove them from the council.
Fired EFF councillors at Ray Nkonyeni Municipality in Port Shepstone allegedly worked with municipal officials to steal R40,000 meant for the party.
The Independent Electoral Commission money was supposed to go to the EFF’s account through the municipality. Instead, Municipal Manager Khetha Zulu allegedly gave it to three councillors who were fired six months ago.
Sources say Zulu kept paying the fired councillors and letting them vote in council meetings despite EFF orders to remove them.
“He kept them in the payroll system and they were attending our meetings to vote in favour of the ANC. When the EFF enquired about this, he claimed they have paid back the money meant for the EFF.
“He also claimed he was unable to process their removal because he was busy with flood damage in Margate,” a source said.
EFF spokesperson Mazwi Blose confirmed the councillors’ suspension from both party and council.
Zulu didn’t answer calls or texts about the allegations. New EFF councillors will soon replace those who illegally represented the party for six months.
