The family of Kaizer Chiefs player Luke Fleurs believed he was gunned down in a planned hit. The sombre message was shared on the first anniversary of his death.

The young soccer star was killed in what is alleged to be a botched hijacking on 3 April 2024. He was just 24 years old.

LUKE FLEURS REMEMBERED ON 1ST ANNIVERSARY OF DEATH

In a heartbreaking Instagram post on the first anniversary, Luke Fleurs’ sister, Sydi, shared her suspicions on what she believed happened to her sibling.

“I wonder how long it took them to plan this ( and yes, we believe it was planned ). I wonder what was the reason to actually sit down and plot your death; I wonder if they had the stomach to eat while doing all of this planning.

She continued, “I wonder if they personally knew you, and I wonder if anyone amongst that group had any doubts, even the slightest doubt.

“I wonder what they were thinking while waiting for you at that robot. I wonder why your “friends” ran away. Are you mad at them? You were so strong and sturdy in stature, but knowing that you fell that night – with no one to catch you, breaks my heart.

“Did it hurt, did you cry? Did you call out for any of us, did you call out to the Almighty ?”

She added: “Some days are harder than others; some days I wish this plan could just be revealed.”

This weekend, the family of Luke Fleurs are planning a Kaizer Chiefs-themed memorial in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. It will be a celebration of his life, filled with fun and games for the whole family”.

TRIAL TO BEGIN IN JULY

Meanwhile, the six men accused of hijacking and murdering Luke Fleurs will go on trial on 21 July at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

The accused – Ndumiso Ndura Moswane, Fernando Nando Sive, Nhlakanipho Dlamini, Franky Xaba, Maredi Mphahlele, and Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu – are charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances, murder, unlawful possession of firearms, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is expected to call 40 state witnesses to testify.

Luke Fleurs was gunned down on 3 April in his red VW Golf 8 GTI outside a petrol station in Florida, Roodepoort.

After shooting Kaizer Chiefs new signing, two of the armed men sped off in a white BMW vehicle. The soccer star’s car was recovered in Soweto a few weeks later.
