  • Nombuso Mkhize faces backlash for allegedly disrespecting traditional leaders during the party’s anniversary, denying them VVIP access and prioritising friends.
  • The Injeje yabeNguni group and MK Youth League demand intervention, accusing Mkhize of undermining traditional leadership and causing tension at the event.

A KZN-based Nguni traditions think tank has lashed out at the MKP Deputy Secretary General for humiliating amaKhosi during the party’s anniversary at the weekend.

The Injeje yabeNguni Traditional Civic Movement has accused the former Estcourt Correctional Centre warder of treating traditional leaders like inmates where she had a stranglehold over them.

MKP DSG Nombuso Mkhize is a folder Correctional Services Department official who processed former president Jacob Zuma when he reported to begin his 15-month jail sentence in July 2031 after he was convicted of contempt of court.

When MKP leadership was unveiled to the public she was a surprise inclusion as she has never been known of any prior political activism.

It is widely believed she took care of Zuma during his time in prison.

Mkhize is now under fire from members of the MK party who accuse her of disrespect and the anger against her has spread across social media.

Mkhize is accused of mistreating invited traditional leaders and refused to give them access to the presidential suite at the party’s first anniversary celebration at Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban on Sunday.

The Injeje yabeNguni Traditional Civic Movement that led the sector of traditional leaders to the event was furious and accused Mkhize of undermining the royal kingdoms that attended the event.

Induna Phumlani Mfeka of Injeje, who is also a member of the KZN legislature for MKP, called on Zuma to quickly address this issue because traditional leaders have decided to boycott a gala dinner at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.

“We are seriously disappointed about her behaviour. That person has shown us that she doesn’t understand the importance of the traditional leadership structure in our society.

“We don’t even want to talk to her because she thinks her mistreatment of inmates must also be applied to traditional leaders. As we speak, royals from North West province had to leave with anger and a feeling that the MK is undermining them,” said Mfeka.

He claimed that Mkhize took the VVIP tags that were meant for traditional leaders and gave them to her friends.

Scrolla.Africa tried several times to get hold of Mkhize but she couldn’t be reached to give her side of the story.

Injenje called on Zuma to analyse the calibre of people who are appointed to senior positions in MK to avoid such chaos.

The MK Youth League also came out guns blazing, claiming that Mkhize refused to give them access to take their seats with the party leadership.

They said they were told by Mkhize that they won’t be given any platform at the anniversary because they are not an official structure.
